This original watercolor batik painting depicts Yasaka Pagoda (Hōkan-ji Temple) in Kyoto, Japan, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the historic Higashiyama district. Inspired by my original travel photography in Kyoto, the painting uses watercolor and wax-resist techniques on Japanese rice paper to create luminous color, rich texture, and distinctive crackled effects.

What Makes This Painting Unique?

Unlike a traditional watercolor, this artwork was created using watercolor batik on Japanese rice paper. Layers of watercolor and wax create rich textures, luminous colors, and unique crackled effects that cannot be duplicated through conventional watercolor techniques.

Original Painting 24x36" on Japanese rice paper.  Mounted on Kool-Tack reversible foam core.  Unframed.

Original painting is shipped in reinforced cardboard box, covered in puncture proof HDPE plastic, sealed in watertight plastic sleeve. USPS Priority Mail (1-3 days) with tracking and insurance (domestic US).
